Social Security Payment Dates for June 2026: When Your Check Arrives

Nearly 71 million Americans receive Social Security benefits each month. June 2026 follows the standard payment schedule with no holiday delays or unusual timing changes. Here are the exact dates for every payment group.

June 2026 Social Security Payment Schedule

Your birth date determines which Wednesday you are paid. This schedule has not changed. June 2026 has no federal holidays that would shift a payment date early.

Which Group Do You Fall Into?

If you started receiving Social Security retirement or disability benefits after April 1997, your payment date is based on your birthday:

  • Born 1st to 10th: paid June 10
  • Born 11th to 20th: paid June 17
  • Born 21st to 31st: paid June 24

If you started receiving benefits before May 1997, you are always paid on the 3rd of the month, which in June is Wednesday, June 3.

If you receive SSI only, your payment is June 1. If you receive both SSI and Social Security, SSI comes on June 1 and Social Security comes on June 3.

The 2026 COLA: How Much More You Are Receiving

The 2026 cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) was 2.8%, which took effect in January 2026. For the average retired worker receiving $1,976/month in 2025, the 2.8% increase added approximately $55/month, bringing the average to about $2,031/month. Your specific benefit amount depends on your earnings history and when you claimed.

Payment Method: Direct Deposit vs Paper Check

As of May 2026, fewer than 281,000 people (under 0.4% of all beneficiaries) still receive paper checks. A 2025 executive order directed federal agencies to phase out paper payments. The SSA strongly encourages switching to direct deposit or Direct Express debit card. To switch, visit GoDirect.gov or call 800-333-1795.

Direct deposit typically arrives in your account on or before the scheduled date, sometimes a day early depending on your bank. Paper checks arrive within a few days of the payment date.

What to Do If Your Payment Does Not Arrive

If your payment does not arrive within 3 days of your scheduled date:

  1. Check your bank account before calling SSA. Many banks post deposits at different times of day.
  2. Verify your payment date in the table above matches your birth date and benefit start date.
  3. Call SSA at 1-800-772-1213 if the payment is more than 3 business days late. Have your Social Security number ready.

If you receive both SSI and regular Social Security, you will be paid three times in October and December 2026:

October 2026: Regular SSI on October 1, Social Security on your usual Wednesday (Oct 14, 21, or 28), then early November SSI on October 30 because November 1 falls on a Sunday.

December 2026: Regular SSI on December 1, Social Security on your usual Wednesday (Dec 9, 16, or 23), then early January 2027 SSI on December 31 because January 1 is a federal holiday.

This is not extra money. It is the next month’s payment arriving early. Your total annual benefit amount does not change.

Frequently Asked Questions

What date will Social Security checks be deposited this month?

In June 2026, Social Security deposits on June 1 (SSI), June 3 (pre-1997 recipients), June 10 (born 1st-10th), June 17 (born 11th-20th), and June 24 (born 21st-31st). Your specific date depends on your benefit type and birthday. Use the payment finder tool above to get your exact date.

Are Social Security recipients getting an extra check in 2026?

No one receives extra money, but some recipients appear to get three deposits in October and December 2026. This happens when the SSI payment for the following month arrives early because the 1st falls on a weekend or holiday. The total annual benefit amount does not change.

What are the payment dates for old age Social Security benefits?

Retirement benefits follow the same schedule as all Social Security payments. If you claimed before May 1997, you are paid on the 3rd of each month. If you claimed after April 1997, you are paid on the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Wednesday depending on your birth date. See the full calendar above.

When my ex-husband dies, do I get his Social Security?

Possibly yes. If you were married for at least 10 years and have not remarried before age 60, you may qualify for survivor benefits based on your ex-husband’s record. The benefit can be up to 100% of what he was receiving at death. Your own benefit is not reduced. You can collect survivor benefits while letting your own retirement benefit grow, then switch later if yours becomes larger. Contact SSA at 1-800-772-1213 to check your eligibility.
